Skaven Battletome - Gamer's Edition
There's lots of reviews of the new Skaven battletome out there, but I've not seen any of the gamer's edition.
It's more expensive than the regular battle tome (£50 v £37 at regular Games Workshop prices, but you do get supplemental cards which, if you want them, would otherwise be £20.50). 3rd parties have the regular battle tome and the cards cheaper (eg a total of £48.87 at Element Games), but they don't have the gamer's edition.
The gamer's edition, is smaller than the regular edition, softback, and comes with cards which replicate the rules in the book, to allow easy reference at the table. In principle. this seems like a good thing.
It is however, not. At least not if you have the slightest hint of long sight.
I'm developing progressive presbyopia on top of my regular short sight., That means I need to take my glasses off to read most things. Except this. Even with my glasses off I can't read most of the text - it's just too small.
The other thing I don't like if the envelope stuck to the back cover, ostensibly so you can put the cards for your army in it. It's too small to hold many cards - so won't do the job it's intended for. It's also too stiff, which makes flipping through the book more challenging.
A smaller softcover book is a great idea. It's just been poorly implemented. I cant' recommended the gamer's edition. I've returned mine, and won't be purchasing the gamer's version for any other factions.
